OUR MISSION - AID FOR THE BLIND

It all began on January 4, 1809 with the birth of a boy to a poor couple in Coupvray, France. At the age of three, Louis Braille accidentally jabbed a leather awl in his eye, which became infected and spread to the other eye. At five, Louis was blind. Growing up in his sightless life left him with one thing in mind - how to find a way for the blind to learn the alphabet. At twelve, he perfected a method of using a stylus by protruding indentations on the reverse side of paper causing cells of six spaces resembling letters. He then made his own brailler using the same alphabet that is used today. BRAILLE WAS BORN.

Later, the USA opened a School for the Blind in Missouri. Lutheran Braille Workers took up the idea and started making books of the Bible in Braille and mailed them all over the world...LBW currently has over seven thousand volunteers working more than two hundred workcenters. We at Mount Olive started on June 22, 2001 and have produced and shipped well over 5,000 books to various countries.

Louis died on January 6, 1852, leaving a legacy of "Bringing Christ to Those in Darkness."

Come join us and be a part of this exciting ministry! The "Braillers" meet every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the Mount Olive fellowship hall.

Bruce and Joyce Austin, coordinators of Mount Olive Braille Ministry, set up the "Brailler".
